![]() If that fixed it, there is something in your users library that is broken/currport/wrong/ et cetera. Now reboot and see if you can get into User without issue (all your customizations will be gone, because you moved the library folder) so the dock, background, and all that will look like it did when you first created the user (user data is still there tho, for the most part) Now, the library folder of User A and B will be in those two folders in the /Users/ folder $ mv /Users/UserA/Library /Users/UserALibrary/ $ mv /Users/UserB/Library /Users/UserBLibrary/ Now move the libraries with these commands $ mkdir UserALibrary $ mkdir UserBLibrary So from the command prompt in single user mode Now, if you still have problems, short of reinstalling, you can try the following.įrom single user mode, follow the last few lines after boot that tell you how to mount the system, and move the users' library folders out of their home into another location (so they can be restored later)Īfter the systems mounted, it will look something like this for the commandįirst, I would make two directories to hold user a and user b's library folders (unless you want to look up the mv command and how to rename the libraries temporarily until you move them back) Read about them if you're interested in all of what they're doing. Remember these two things for future troubleshooting. ![]() So now you should have reset PRAM and SMC. NOTHING will appear to happen, unless it IS a laptop, and the charger is plugged in and its in the middle of charging, you'll see the orange light go to green for a few seconds before going to orange again. ![]() While the machine is off, hold the following keysĬommand-option-shfit and then hit the power button. Now that PRAMs reset, reset SMC (this will be different on an iMac, but still simple) (you can try to login but it might still have the same problem, thats ok) Then, just for the hell of it (I do both PRAM and this anytime I troubleshoot any macs)Īfter you heard the chime twice WHILE holding all four of those keys, let them go and let it boot normally. This resets PRAM, Parameters, which can do weird things with hardware and such, so if you have apps that leverage parts of the hardware and they're all catty wompus this will help. Literally, hold all four of those keys, with the other hand, press the power button and CONTINUE to hold all four keys until you hear the chime TWO times (people will say more than that, but Apple instruct the instructor courses engineers will confirm its only twice, and thats just in case your volume was muted the first time) Hold the following keys, this isn't a joke, its easiest to to use your LEFT hand over the RIGHT side of the keyboard so you can reach all four While the mac is off (Im assuming here its a laptop, if not, look up these two things online for iMac, they're all similar) Based on your user A user B scenario, it certainly sounds like (if it IS software) the user library of user A.īut first, do these two things, just to make sure its not something else. ![]()
